In-home newborn sessions…tell me more!
Little toes, the softest skin, button noses and that wonderful new baby smell. These are a few of the things I love most about the newborn phase.
My daughter is almost three and I am so thankful that each day I go up my stairs, I am immediately taken back to those first few weeks with her, thanks to the gallery of newborn photos I have on display.
As your photographer, I want to ensure you have that same experience for years to come.
I offer two different types of newborn photography packages, in-home and studio. I’ve had a lot of people ask questions about the in-home session, so this post will be dedicated to all things in-home newborn photography.
What is the difference between an in-home newborn session and a studio session?
In-home sessions are totally customized and unique to each client because they are done in the comfort of your home. This session is considered a lifestyle session, meaning I always try to capture a mixture of you doing your normal day-to-day activities (diaper changes, feedings, etc.) and some posed photos with you and the baby.
I worry my home isn’t “Instagram” worthy and/or I don’t have a lot of space. Does this mean I shouldn’t choose the in-home session?
Don’t let this stop you! Your home is where you do life, it can’t be perfect all of the time. We can make any nook in your home look picture perfect, or we can focus on capturing more up close images that don’t show too much of your home. It more about the connection with the baby than what is around it.
When I arrive, I ask that you show me around and we will select the areas you would like to take photos. This can be anywhere really. Whether it’s in the living room, the baby’s nursery, your room or even the kitchen. I help clean up and move things around if needed, then we start with the session.
And if you still want that home feel, but don’t want to do it in your home, we can always do them at a relatives. The following photos were taken in homes, but they weren’t the client’s home. They still get that more relaxed/cozy vibe that you don’t necessarily get with an in-studio shoot.
My home doesn’t have a lot of natural light and can be dark at times. Will that be an issue?
Gone are the days I rely solely on natural light. I LOVE natural light and if it’s available, I’m going to utilize it, but I don’t want this to ever become a barrier for families. I have invested in training and equipment to ensure we capture the photos you want, with or without natural light.
I love the idea of an in-home session, but I also love the super posed photos of babies. This is making it hard for me to decide which session to pick.
I totally get it! That is why I am currently offering an add-on package for the posed baby photos with the in-home newborn session. This is a scaled back version of an in-studio session. It will include access to a few different wraps and up to two different props. I will need some dedicated space in your house, usually the living room. It will appear that I am moving in when I bring all of my equipment with me, but I want to make sure you receive the gallery of your dreams because your baby is only a newborn once.
These were photos taken in a client’s home.
