In-home newborn sessions…tell me more!
Natalie Wood Media offers two different types of newborn photography packages, in-home and studio. I’ve had a lot of people ask questions about the in-home session, so this post will be dedicated to all things in-home newborn photography.
Little toes, the softest skin, button noses and that wonderful new baby smell. These are a few of the things I love most about the newborn phase.
My daughter is almost three and I am so thankful that each day I go up my stairs, I am immediately taken back to those first few weeks with her, thanks to the gallery of newborn photos I have on display.
As your photographer, I want to ensure you have that same experience for years to come.

What is the difference between an in-home newborn session and a studio session?
In-home sessions are totally customized and unique to each client because they are done in the comfort of your home. This session is considered a lifestyle session, meaning I always try to capture a mixture of you doing your normal day-to-day activities (diaper changes, feedings, etc.) and some posed photos with you and the baby.
I worry my home isn’t “Instagram” worthy and/or I don’t have a lot of space. Does this mean I shouldn’t choose the in-home session?
Don’t let this stop you! Your home is where you do life, it can’t be perfect all of the time. We can make any nook in your home look picture perfect, or we can focus on capturing more up close images that don’t show too much of your home. It more about the connection with the baby than what is around it.
When I arrive, I ask that you show me around and we will select the areas you would like to take photos. This can be anywhere really. Whether it’s in the living room, the baby’s nursery, your room or even the kitchen. I help clean up and move things around if needed, then we start with the session.
And if you still want that home feel, but don’t want to do it in your home, we can always do them at a relatives. The following photos were taken in homes, but they weren’t the client’s home. They still get that more relaxed/cozy vibe that you don’t necessarily get with an in-studio shoot.
My home doesn’t have a lot of natural light and can be dark at times. Will that be an issue?
Gone are the days I rely solely on natural light. I LOVE natural light and if it’s available, I’m going to utilize it, but I don’t want this to ever become a barrier for families. I have invested in training and equipment to ensure we capture the photos you want, with or without natural light.
I love the idea of an in-home session, but I also love the super posed photos of babies. This is making it hard for me to decide which session to pick.
I totally get it! That is why I am currently offering an add-on package for the posed baby photos with the in-home newborn session. This is a scaled back version of an in-studio session. It will include access to a few different wraps and up to two different props. I will need some dedicated space in your house, usually the living room. It will appear that I am moving in when I bring all of my equipment with me, but I want to make sure you receive the gallery of your dreams because your baby is only a newborn once.
These were photos taken in a client’s home.

Professional Photos, Children and Social Media
Let’s talk social media for a moment. Do I love it? Yes! It’s one of tools I use most often to spread news about my business to clients. Do I see the downside in it? Absolutely!
We all love to share our lives on social media. Had a fun, delicious brunch with friends? Post it! Took a trip with beautiful landscapes? Snap a picture of that view and post it! Capturing those precious moments and immortalizing them for the world to see has become the norm.
I recently had a mama (who also happens to be one of my very best friends) let me know that she was going to stop posting photos of her kiddos full face on social media. It’s something the two of us have discussed in length since we both have very public business pages, and I am so proud of her for making this decision for her family.
I photograph this family fairly often and was very open to this change for her family. As your photographer, it is my job to capture not only the photos you want to see on your walls, but the ones you’d like to share with others as well.
Our first session together after she made this decision has probably been one of my favorite sessions to date. I stopped worrying so much about getting everyone’s face in the frame and focused more on capturing the true connection between family members.
If this is a decision you are considering making for your family, I’m on board! Book your session with me today and let’s capture this beautiful phase of life you are in.
Senior Session: Downtown OKC & Martin Nature Park
Ellie’s senior session was so special to me. She is a former youth group student of mine, so I have known her for several years. Ellie is always smiling, she loves her friends fiercely and if there is a volunteer role available (especially one that includes kiddos), you know Ellie will always be the first to step up.

Ellie won a free session during a giveaway I hosted and decided to utilize it for her senior photos, and I am so glad she did!!
Upon booking her session, Ellie and I discussed location ideas for her photoshoot. She knew she wanted downtown OKC and “somewhere in a field”. I knew exactly where to go! We started our session at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City, then meandered the streets finding perfect photo opportunities as we went. Downtown OKC has many great locations that allow for diversity within one session. Next, we headed up HWY 75 to Martin Nature Park to capture the field photos she knew she wanted.
One of the many things I loved about Ellie’s session was the addition of her BFF. Taylor was with us the whole time helping with wardrobe changes, encouraging her friend and jumped in a few photos as well. I love the idea including friends in your senior photos! Friends are such an important part of high school and I know they both will cherish these photos as they grow through life.
Ellie is a senior at Edmond North High School and plans to attend Oklahoma State University in 2025.
Good luck, Ellie!
I am now booking 2024 seniors in and around the Nowata and Oklahoma City areas! You can call me at 918-290-0977 or book through the website today!
Senior Session: Martin Nature Park | Oklahoma City
Senior portrait session at Martin Nature Park in Oklahoma City.
Alyssa, a senior at Cushing High School, is one of my former youth group students. I have known her since she was in 6th grade and have had the opportunity to watch her grow into the young adult she is today.
She is dependable, has a beautiful soul and is always willing to help. She is an observer, often not the loudest in the group, but always willing to support and make sure others are included. She can smile with her entire face one minute then give the most fierce and perfect serious face this photographer has ever seen... I think it comes with the territory of being the oldest sibling of four.
We started Alyssa’s session at 5:30 pm in the beginning of August. It was a hot, humid day and I was sweating bullets. Thankfully, I wasn’t the one being photographed and I brought a portable fan for Alyssa. :)
Upon booking her senior photoshoot and completing the new senior form, I connected with Alyssa to narrow down the location to Martin Nature Park in Oklahoma City. The park takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the metro and provides a wonderful backdrop for sessions year-round.
Thank you Alyssa for selecting me to be your senior session photographer! I can’t wait to see what this world has in store for you.
